About
This business is a labor of love and necessity. After retiring from 35 years in corporate America, sitting still just didn't work. I needed an outlet to stay busy and be productive. Woodwork was always something I enjoyed but never had time to pursue. What if I built the highest quality product I could, and just had fun doing it?

About 6 months ago I started reading all I could about different wood projects and picked cutting boards as my core business. It fit my limited space, required only select tools, and I had experience that would reduce the learning curve. And so it started. After several prototypes I found a style and product I felt was unique to the market.

Here's the gap in the market I tried to fill. Most cutting boards were too small for my needs. I needed something that wouldn't move around. A 2" thick board seemed to add the right weight. Length should span the average sink so you can cut over it when needed. An "emerald" cut base allowed the board to be gripped from any place on the board. No feet allowed the top and bottom to be used for cutting or display. The juice grove seemed un needed as carrying a 12 lbs. board to the sink with 8 oz of liquid sloshing around was impractical. It also gives you more cutting area. My woods would also give great knief feel. Since I buy directly from a saw mill, in 8'-12' lengths, most boards are made from wood from the same board, meaning the same tree. That helps give them their unique look.

Design was next. These boards are designed for home use, in other words, form and function. How they looked mattered. Exotic woods, the best domestics, in interesting patterns, would match many of today's designed kitchens. And to be honest, many boards I saw were amazing quality, but well, were designed by men! Style counts in this price range.

With that, the 1927 Wood Studio was born. I hope you find the perfect board for you special gatherings.
